Is there a minimum age for taking part in the Cape Town Marathon?

Yes, all participants in the Cape Town Marathon must be aged 18 or older on Marathon Day – you will be asked to confirm your age when you enter the event.

What is the registration fee and how much do I have to fundraise?

The registration fee for the Cape Town Marathon is £50.00 and we ask all our charity place fundraisers to raise a minimum of £1,900.

Please note there is a first fundraising target of £1,200.00 which is due on the 1st February 2026. The remainder of your fundraising target (£700.00) is due 4 weeks after the event.

Will I get a fundraising top to wear on the day?

Absolutely, we love to send our team a technical t-shirt to wear during the run. We will even get you an iron on name so you can personalise it.

These are usually sent out after your first fundraising target.

Please note that if you are an international participant, we attempt to send t-shirts out but they often get stopped and require releasing with a small payment by your local sorting office. This is not something we can cover beforehand so would be expected by the participant.

How will I get my race pack?

You will need to collect your race pack from their Expo, which usually runs from Thursday to Saturday before the event. Make sure you allow time to collect the pack during your race day planning.

Is Cape Town a Marathon Major?

The Sanlam Cape Town Marathon was set to undergo its final evaluation to become the eighth Abbott World Marathon Major (AWMM). However, due to the last-minute cancellation of this year’s event, the final testing phase has been postponed.

As a result, Cape Town is not yet officially designated as the 8th Abbott World Marathon Major.

Looking ahead, participants in the 2026 Sanlam Cape Town Marathon will receive a provisional 8th Star in recognition of their achievement. Once all nine marathons have been formally confirmed by AWMM, this provisional star will count toward the 9-Star Medal.
