The extraordinary power of a gift in your Will
This is an exciting new era for spinal cord research. Our vision is bold and ambitious: together, we will make curing paralysis the greatest medical breakthrough of the 21st century. Leave a gift in your Will and be part of something extraordinary.
Why leave a gift in your Will
Today, every two hours someone will be paralysed by a spinal cord injury in the UK. When you remember Spinal Research in your Will, you play an important role in discovering answers that matter most to people living with paralysis. This includes restoring mobility and vital functions, improving bladder, bowel and sexual function, and ultimately finding a cure.
The power to transform lives for generations to come
Gifts in Wills helped to fund our Pathfinder2 trial. The trial proved that spinal cord stimulation technology, combined with activity-based rehabilitation, can help to restore movement and functions. In 2025, the UK approved this technology as the first function-restoring treatment for spinal cord injuries.
This historic milestone marks huge progress towards a cure, and right now, more life-changing treatments are on the horizon. Your gift, no matter its size, can speed up breakthroughs and help more groundbreaking research move from the lab to clinical trials and then into the real world, enabling people to regain their freedom and independence. This is the extraordinary power of a gift in your Will.
Power groundbreaking research with your gift
"What we need most is funding to accelerate lab-based discoveries into clinical trials, so that innovative treatments and therapies reach people quickly and at scale. Your gift has the power to revolutionise the treatment and rehabilitation landscape for people affected by spinal cord injuries." – Louisa McGinn, CEO

Your questions answered
I already have a Will. Can I update it to include Spinal Research?
Yes, your solicitor or Will writer can easily update your existing Will to include a gift to Spinal Research.
What types of gift can I leave?
We receive many different types of gifts in Wills and we’re always incredibly grateful to receive each one. There are three main types of gift you can leave in your Will:
A share of your estate (Residuary gift)
This is a share (or maybe all) of what remains in your estate after all taxes, debts and other costs have been paid. Your estate is everything you own that is of value.
Many of our supporters prefer this type of gift as it holds its value over time. This helps ensure that each gift to the people and causes closest to your heart remains as you intended. A small share of your estate, like 1%, can help power life-changing breakthroughs, while 99% still goes to your loved ones.
A fixed sum of money (Pecuniary gift)
This is a set amount of any value of your choice.
A specific gift
This includes specific items such as property, stock, shares, the proceeds of a bank account, or jewellery.
What information will I need to share with my solicitor?
Your solicitor or professional Will writer will need:
Charity Name: Spinal Research.
Charity Address: 201 Borough High Street London SE1 1JA.
Registered Charity No.: 1151015 (England & Wales) SC050578 (Scotland)
Can a gift in my Will to charity reduce inheritance tax?
Yes, remembering a charity like Spinal Research can help lower the amount of inheritance tax you pay, helping you pass more on to your loved ones. Speak to your solicitor or Will writer for advice.
Do I need to tell Spinal Research if I choose to leave a gift?
It is up to you. When we know people have left a gift in their Will, it helps us to plan ahead and gives us the chance to say thank you. If you would like to, please let us know by completing our short form.
