Share hope
A spinal cord injury can happen to anyone, changing hopes and dreams in an instant. Our research is showing that life changing treatments for paralysis are possible, bringing hope to the spinal cord injured (SCI) community.
We are calling on you to share your hope:
- Tell us what a future free from paralysis would mean for you or a loved one.
- What are your hopes for spinal cord injury research?
- Or maybe you would like to leave a message of hope for the whole of the SCI community, including our network of dedicated researchers.
Bel's hope

I’ll never give up hoping, because I know that amazing scientists and researchers will never give up looking for ways to cure my paralysis. All it will take is more research.

Jan's message
I feel very positive that a cure or fix for spinal cord injuries and paralysis must be within reach. Our scientists and medics are making huge progress in medicine, especially in the last 20 years. It would be wonderful to see this achievement in my lifetime.
John's message
My life motto is the Latin phrase, dum spiro spero, which translates to "While I breathe, I hope". I will never give up hope of a life without paralysis with the help of scientific research.
Tara's message
Therapies exist to restore function right now with other promising developments and avenues in the wings. The scientific community believe it's possible to cure paralysis. The hurdle that exists is one of funding and no longer one of science. How our research is giving hope
Research is crucial to improving the quality of life for people with a spinal cord injury. Currently, the only treatment for spinal cord injury is rehabilitation, management of pain, and adapting to life with reduced mobility and a vast number of secondary health conditions. After an injury, many individuals are told that there is no hope of a cure, which is why Spinal Research exists.
We are harnessing the power of science to find cures for paralysis and its effects. Finding a cure is no longer a pipedream. There is research being developed today which will bring life changing improvements to people currently living with paralysis.
In addition to research, we also fund PhD studentships and summer schools. Through these, we are creating a network of specialists in the field and the experts of the future.
This means that the 60,000 people living with a spinal cord injury in the UK have the hope that a cure will be found in their lifetime.
Once you have decided how you will get involved you can choose a fundraising target and set up your fundraising page. Then, let us know your plans so we can support you with advice and materials.
