May 2018 - Effect of Spinal Epidural Stimulation on low blood pressure
Low blood pressure, often found in people with a spinal cord injury, can cause falls and unconsciousness. This US research shows early signs of managing blood pressure effectively when sitting or standing. The electrical stimulation is applied directly to the spine via an invasive device.
The research was carried out in America between 2009-15 by five research and rehabilitation organisations with seven people with a spinal cord injury enrolled in the study. The findings 'Epidural Spinal Cord Stimulation of Lumbosacral Networks Modulates Arterial Blood Pressure in Individuals With Spinal Cord Injury-Induced Cardiovascular Deficits' were published in Frontiers 18 May 2018.
