You may already have ideas on how to raise money. If not, here are a few suggestions to help you get started.
- Join an existing event – There are lots of organised events all over the UK. Just sign up to the event of your choice and use the opportunity to raise money by getting sponsored for the ride.
- Do a sponsored 10k ride or see how many famous race courses you can virtually ride around in a week or choose a distance that will challenge you.
- Organise a ride with friends over a pre-planned route and encourage riders to get sponsorship.
- Track your distance in the time you set for yourself, whether you do it in one day or over a week or two. There are many free phone apps that you can download to do this.
- Get in touch with your local riding club or school – Ask them if they would be prepared to put on a fundraiser, organise a fun ride or put on a show.
- Put on a Horse Show. Donate a percentage of the entry fee for each class or event. Hold one special event or class where the whole fee is donated.
Once you have decided how you will get involved you can choose a fundraising target and set up your fundraising page. Then, let us know your plans so we can support you with advice and materials.

Tara's story
A spinal cord injury can happen in a split second, and sometimes the things we love the most can play a part. Tara was a rider with many years of experience in the sport. But horses can be unpredictable and whilst out on a hack with her horse Victor, Tara was bucked off, falling headfirst. As a result of the accident Tara was paralysed from the upper chest down due to a C6/7 spinal cord injury. She spent over nine months in hospital before returning home to try and rebuild her life.
"They say that one fall can change your life forever... but I believe research can reverse that" Tara Stewart, Spinal Research Trustee
