As we approach the end of the year, it’s a good time to look back over the last 12 months, but also look forward with excitement to 2024.
As always, it’s been a busy calendar of both exciting research and fundraising activity.
For me 2023 represents a watershed moment for research, with a stream of positive findings from studies around the world being published. This includes a number of clinical trials whose scientific leads presented their findings at our annual Network Meeting. One of these is planning to have the necessary approvals in place to treat patients in the next 12 months.
With the first generation of function restoring treatments now within grasp, we are excited and determined to accelerate these to help those in our community.
All of this promising work of course would not take place without the support of people like you. Whether you attended one of our events or held your own, took on a physical challenge or supported our work through donations, you are all playing your part in our mission to cure paralysis.
And for those that feel able, you can also support our work at Christmas through taking part in our special prize draw or signing up to our new weekly lottery appeal (please note UK residents only can take part) through which you could win £25,000 each week.
We also have an exciting calendar of events and ways to support our work in 2024.
2024 promises to be an exciting phase in our history. One which will see us begin to see tangible progress of this first-generation life changing treatments, as well as a significant focus on speeding up the development of the next generation of treatments beyond that.
Your support brings us one step closer to our goal of restoring all functions and curing paralysis.
Thank you on behalf of the whole SCI community, and I wish you and your families a peaceful holiday time.
