I am 48 years old – married to Chris with two children James (21) and Sophie (18). In May 2009 whilst competing my horse at Staffordshire county show – she was spooked causing her to fall on me and causing a complete SCI at T11. I have had an amazing life over the last 16 years – continuing to raise our two children whilst also competing at high level in a number of sports – most notably hand cycling where I was a member of the GB paracycling team. In 2017, I cycled from Land’s End to John o’Groats – achieving a Guinness world record as the first and fastest female to do this (also beating the men’s record!!)
Prior to my injury I worked as a solicitor and I have recently returned to the legal world in a slightly different role. I provide support to our clients who have sustained a spinal cord injury. I feel like i have the best job in the world helping someone who is newly injured realise that their life can still go on. I volunteered with the SIA prior to returning to work. I continue to volunteer for the Backup Trust as a mentor and have also just completed my training to become a Group Leader for Backup on their residential courses.
On the 1st May 2025, I was appointed by the Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire as a Deputy Lieutenant. This is an honourable role and a huge privilege for me, and I look forward to carrying out my role within the County of Lancashire on behalf of the Lord Lieutenant and the King.
