In 2017, in an effort to get fit after finding out he was pre-diabetic, Rae decided to take up cycling. Devastatingly, he sustained a spinal cord injury at C3/4 after a bike accident. This left Rae with no movement and being told he would never walk again. However, after two months in hospital and intense rehabilitation, he managed to get back on his feet.
Now, Rae dedicates his time to supporting the charities that helped him throughout his trials and tribulations. This includes participating in the Alpine Challenge and completing the London marathon in 8 hours and 30 minutes, which was an incredible achievement considering Rae sustained an inflamed hip in mile 1! The following year he went on to do an ultra-marathon. All of these challenges were in aid of Spinal Research.
It is important for Rae to share his story to bring hope to the SCI community.
